Thailand Loans Cambodia Us$26 Million for Stung Bot-ban Nong Ing Development

To boost trade and facilitate ease of travel between the two countries, Thailand has granted more than US$26 million in loans to Cambodia for the development of Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ing border checkpoint of Banteay Meanchey, said Prime Minister Samdech Techno Hun Sen.

Writing on his Facebook page on 22 April 2019, Samdech Techno Hun Sen said that “the construction building of Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ing and the construction of a road connecting to National Road No. 5, the Royal Government of Cambodia, has received approximately US$26.42 million in a concessional loan from the Royal Government of Thailand”.

According to Samdech, this border checkpoint includes the construction of a Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ing checkpoint building and the connecting road, dormitory building, a parking lot for goods transfer (stock and container terminal), renovation of old roads, and flood prevention construction.

This development project will transform Banteay Meanchey into a heavily developed area as a stock centre and distributor, and as a special economic zone. The area can then support other domestic investment projects and as well as an investment within countries in the greater Mekong Sub-region, according to Samdech.
