After reopening to the public in late 2018, the Angkor Dynasty theatre, an epic historical recreation of the culture of Angkorian era, is planning to open a new theatre in Preah Sihanoukville province.

A joint investment by Cambodian Mega Asset Management and China Cultural and Industrial enterprise name MeiYi Group, the theatre was built in Siem Reap province, where it is the one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cambodia. The performance focuses on cultural and historical shows in Cambodia.

Li Yongxi, director of Angkor Dynasty, said the company plans to build another theatre in Preah Sihanoukville province in response to the increasing foreign tourists in the coastal area, particularly Chinese tourists.

Although neither details of the budget nor information of the project has been disclosed, Mr Li said the second theatre in Preah Sihanoukville province will be smaller than the Angkor Dynasty in Siem Reap province.

“The project of building another theatre in Preah Sihanoukville province is due to the increasing number of international tourists and it aims to get those tourists to learn and understand about the history and culture of the Angkorian era as the Angkor Dynasty in Siem Reap currently does,” Mr Li said.

Located about five kilometres from Angkor Wat temple, the Angkor Dynasty, was built with an investment of approximately US$30 million, and is open to the public every evening with the show running from 7:30 to 9:00.

1,200 seats are available in the theatre and a ticket prices are US$20 for foreign visitors and US$8 for Cambodians.

Most visitors are Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, according to Mr Li, while pointing out that the theatre also receives Cambodian visitors.
