Government rolls back on privately funded infrastructure deals

With the aim of making travel easier for the people, the Royal Government of Cambodia has nixed infrastructure deals on bridges and roads from private companies in recent years, according to a special collection from Fresh News.

According to the same source, the government has revoked the concessional contracts from private companies on infrastructure such as National Road No. 4, Veng Sreng Boulevard, Street 371, and Street 2004 in Phnom Penh, and Koh Kong Bridge, and Prek Pnov Bridge so the public can use them free of charge without paying a toll.

People passing through National Road No. 4 have no longer had to pay since January 2016 after the government revoked the contract from AZ Distribution Co., Ltd, while on Veng Sreng Boulevard, Street 371, and Street 2004, toll booth payments ceased at the end of 2015.

Meanwhile, the Royal Government also took over control of Prek Phnov Bridge and Ly Yong Phat road for the public to freely use since October 2017. Koh Kong Bridge, which connects Koh Kong Province to Thailand was made free of charge in November 2017.

These achievements reflect the government’s commitment to easing the burden for people while also contributing to improving their living standards.
