Close to 200 Construction Sites in Preah Sihanoukville Called by Land Ministry and Provincial Authority

The Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) in collaboration with the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration have held a public meeting on construction safety and quality with around 195 construction site owners attended, said Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration.

During the 4 December meeting, H.E Lao Tip Seiha, Secretary of State of the MLMUPC instructed the construction site owners to follow four technical standards including; 1) construction owner must look for the registered constructor, designer, 2) construction owner must ensure that the site has a standby constructor, engineers and worker, if not it will face closure 3) owner must have a map of the geographical area of the tower crane used daily 4) contractor must properly check the type of soil in the area as some area in Sihanoukville is muddy and while others are rocky, which cause to construction failure just like the reason case of a collapse of a 7 storey building.

Meanwhile, H.E Kuoch Chamroeun, Governor of Preah Sihanouk, said some construction sites did not follow the proper technical standard, which poses a risk to workers and people.

He urged that all construction site owners be concerned about the safety and quality of their construction works in accordance with the laws of Cambodia.

The Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) has recently published the entire contents of the new construction law following ratification by the National Assembly. (Read more)

The construction law also imposes a sentence of 15 years in prison for construction death.
