Six-storey building collapses in Kep province, killing 7 and injuring 25

A six-storey building under construction in Kep province collapsed on 03 January, killing 7 people and injuring 25 others as rescue work continues.

The building, located in Kep Village, Sangkat Kep, Kep City, Kep Province, collapsed at 4:15 pm on 03 January.

According to a press release from Kep Provincial Hall, as of 04 January, the rescue team and local authorities are continuing searches and rescue efforts to rescue victims beneath the collapsed building.

As of 5:00 am today, the joint rescue team had rescued 25 people from the rubble, of whom 7 were dead.

Regarding the collapse, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction has set up a committee to check the building, the quality of the contracted construction company, and will report the results to the ministry.

The six-story building is owned by Ek Sarun and Chiv Sothy in Kep city, according to the press release.

The rescue operations at the site of the collapsed building was attended by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

In June 2019, a 7-storey building collapsed in Sihanoukville killed 28 people and injured 26 others.
