MLMUPC orders demolition of 14 buildings in Sihanoukville

The Construction Review Committee of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction has ordered the demolition of 14 buildings in Sihanoukville in the last nine month since the committee created.

The statistic was provided by H.E. Seng Lot, Ministry of Land Management spokesperson, at a press conference organized by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit at the Office of the Council of Ministers on 16 March 2020.

“I would like to inform you that following the building collapse accidents in Sihanoukville, the government has created the Construction Review Committee to inspect more than 500 buildings so far,” he said.

“For constructions that approved and ordered to be demolished was 14, with more than 100 buildings still ‘under investigation’ with technical support from professional investigating firms,” he added.

The committee was established with the main duty to inspect the implementation of technical, legal, construction, safety and quality standards of all construction sites and all construction companies operating in Sihanoukville.

According to the 2019 Annual Performance Report of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, from 2000 to 2019, the Ministry granted a total of 284permits for buildings 5-stories and above, and 312 permits for the construction of Borey projects in Sihanoukville.

In 2019, 23 construction sites were demolished and 14 buildings were planned for the demolition by The Construction Review Committee due to their inadequate quality. (Read more) and (more)
