Sihanouk Provincial Hall Mulls Giving Land to 53 Koh Rong & Koh Rong Samloem Families

Sihanoukville Provincial Administration is working on the possibility of giving to land to 53 families who have proof of occupying land in Sangkat Koh Rong and Sangkat Koh Rong Samloem Province, according to the administration’s announcement on 19 September.

The announcement stated that those 53 families are required to submit the proof or related documents before 16 October 2020; otherwise, the administration will not proceed with the investigation.

The necessary documents include:
– Khmer Nationality Identity Card, Family Book and/or Residence Book
– Documents confirming the possession of land (sale and purchase agreement of the property, and/or letter of land possession, and/or letter of ownership transfer etc.)

Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem are state lands. However, in 2009, the government granted a 99-year lease of Koh Rong to the Royal Group, to transform the island into a commercial hub and nature tourism resort.

In July this year, the Royal Group injected US$35 million to build 70km of concrete roads on Koh Rong Island, as part of the firm’s development master plan. (Read more)
