Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh GM Confirms Q1 2021 Opening Date

Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh General Manager Herman Kemp has confirmed that the hotel will finally open in the first quarter of 2021, after a period of delay due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Mr Kemp, as of today, the construction is 100% complete, and currently, the team is working on all the interiors of guest rooms, function spaces and dining outlets.

“Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh is set to open its doors in quarter 1 of 2021, with 247 guest rooms and suites, 9 multi-functional events spaces and distinctive bars and restaurants showcasing a variety of local and international cuisines, as well as bespoke cocktails and live entertainment,” Mr Kemp told Construction & Property Magazine.

He added that the hotel was first set to open this year, but the opening has been postponed during the pandemic.

“We delayed our opening in 2020 due to COVID-19 and the impact the pandemic has had on Cambodia, affecting international travel and severely limiting the number of business and leisure travellers to Phnom Penh. This delay has positively impacted us by allowing additional time to put in enhanced hygiene and guest safety measures from the start, ensuring guests feel safe when dining and staying with us,” said Mr Kemp.

“Although international travel is still limited, we will be opening in Q1 2020 focusing on bringing new dining experiences to the market along with state of the art function spaces, perfect for social events and meetings,” he added.

Located in the heart of Phnom Penh between the Royal Palace and National Museum on St. 178, this 5-star hotel is the first-ever Hyatt-branded business in the kingdom. Construction has been underway since March 2017 with an investment of US$200 million by the Chip Mong Group.
