What is Construction Consultancy?

In most cases, developers always encounter complicated tasks in their construction projects, in terms of both technical and legal procedures. These difficulties might be quite challenging for experienced developers, but in the worst case might discourage new developers from entering the market. This is when the construction consultancy services are required.

What is a construction consultancy? And why is it necessary?

Construction consultancy is conducted by a consulting firm that specialises in construction work. They provide services to project owners for a fee based on the size of the work.

Their tasks include, but not limited to, project management, architectural work, and construction analysis, among others. The services will be provided by experienced and qualified professionals in the construction and architectural sectors.

The benefits of outsourcing the construction consultancy include less complicated works for project owners, more accurate analysis regarding the cost and other project details, and especially being more cost-effective with high reliability as those firms are more experienced.

Based on a local construction consulting firm, their tasks are general divided into three phases:

1. Pre-Construction:
– Designing, Planning, Scheduling, Budgeting, QS
– Value engineering
– Bidding
– Contract Review (price review, technical review and legal review)

2. During Construction:
– Site Inspection and Quality Control (piling stage, structure, MEP, Finishing work)
– Stock control
– Payment claims review

3. Post-Construction:
– Building assessment

Overall, the use of consulting services will help improve the quality and safety of construction, and especially help solve complex tasks for project owners. However, the law does not require all project owners to use this service, the choice solely depends on the experience of each project owner.
