World Tankers Management Seeks Out-of-Court Settlement for 300k-Barrel Missing Oil Case

World Tankers Management, the MT Strovolos tanker operator, is trying to avoid court involvement in the 300,000-barrel missing case after the Cambodian government filed a lawsuit against MT Strovolos.

The ship management company said it was working with stakeholders on the case.

The company was quoted by the Khmer Times on 7 September saying, “All parties are now working together closely to ensure this situation is resolved in a speedy and amicable way and we believe that will happen soon.”

However, the firm’s representative did not disclose the method on how it would avoid the courts yet.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy confirmed in a press release on 3 September that the oil carried by the MT Strovolos belonged to Cambodia.

The ministry also claimed that the departure of the MT Strovolos tanker was made without going through customs clearance procedures and without any permission from the Cambodian authorities, which is against Cambodian law. (Read more)

The ministry has requested the Indonesian government to return the perpetrators and tanker, including nearly 300,000 barrels of oil to Cambodia.
