The feasibility study for establishing smart bus shelters in Phnom Penh by the Japanese government is ongoing and set for completion in March.

The progress of this study was updated during the Cambodia-Japan Meeting of Public-Private Platform for Urban Development held on 16 February.

The project is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan (MLIT). The study began in July 2021 and is being conducted by three Japanese firms.

According to the study, there are three types of smart bus shelters to be located in Phnom Penh, from top to low spec types depending on the actual demand of each location.

The top-spec one will include a bus location system & arriving time, standard system, environmental & metrological sensor, and shared electric bicycle. The mid-spec one will have only the standard system and bus information system.

Both types will be equipped with a solar power system, smart camera, smart lighting, wifi, as well as digital advertisement and announcement board.
