Deputy Prime Minister Chea Sophara Works to Prevent Beach Violations

Deputy Prime Minister HE Chea Sophara, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and Chairman of the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development has instructed the four governors of coastal provinces to jointly maintain the coastline and prevent the construction encroachments of beaches.

HE Chea Sophara made the remarks at the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a multi-purpose logistics center and port in Kampot province last week.

Recognizing that the coast of Cambodia is an important resource to attract tourists and generate income for the people and the national economy, HE Chea Sophara called on the governors of the four coastal provinces of Sihanoukville, Kampot, Kep, and Koh Kong to work hard together to protect the beaches so there is no encroachment or building structures.

“All coastal provincial governors should prevent and avoid soil filling and avoid the use of the beach for construction. One or two constructions could damage all the benefits,” he said.

Regarding the management of the beach, Deputy Prime Minister Chea Sophara also praised the management of the beach in Preah Sihanouk province.
