Cambodia-Australia officially announces New Regulations on Health and Safety for construction sites

New regulations on health and safety at construction sites have been officially announced to save lives at construction sites.

These regulations have been announced on 7 June 2022 under HE Leang Monirith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and Mr Robin Flint, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia. They were joined by 200 participants from line ministries and provincial departments, local authorities, and construction companies from six provinces.

According to HE Leang Monirith and Mr Robin Flint, the regulations and workshops will improve the safety and health of construction workers both in and around the construction site. This is vital work to protect and save their lives.

The growth of the construction sector in Cambodia requires preparing and implementing an official standard related to the quality of construction, the design of construction structures, and health and safety at construction sites.

According to the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, over the last two decades, more than 57,000 construction permits have been issued to construction sites across Cambodia employing an average of 150,000 workforces a day for a total investment worth more than 66 billion US dollars.

The Development of Health and Safety Guidelines for the Construction Site is supported by the Australian Government through the Infrastructure Investment Program (3i) in a total fund of A $ 51.7 million that was approved in May 2022. (Read more)
