Japan Funds Implementation of Construction Workers Safety Standards Plan in Mondulkiri Province

The Japanese government have funded the training for improving the working environment of small-scale construction sites to support the health of construction workers in Mondulkiri province. This is according to the publication of Mondulkiri Provincial Information Department on 09 June 2022.

This training course was organised by the Department of Labour of Mondulkiri province in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) project to improve occupational safety and health in the construction sector in Cambodia.

Mr Keo Thuon, Deputy Director of the Medical Department of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said that the construction sector is a growing sector, while Cambodia is paying attention to the safety and health of workers in this sector.

He said that the project to improve occupational safety and health in the construction sector in Cambodia of the International Labour Organisation is under the financial support of the people of Japan.

According to the 2022 Enterprise Census, Mondulkiri has a total of 174 small and medium enterprises across the province, employing a total of 4,851 people, he said. The training is a way to better share experiences that are useful for construction sites and for workers working in the construction sector.

It should be noted that the project is to improve safety and health standards on construction sites. On 07 June 2022, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and the Australian Embassy in Cambodia also officially announced the new guidelines on health and safety at construction sites to save lives on construction sites in Cambodia.
