Chinese to Establish Large-Scale Edible-Nest Swiftlet Processing Plant

The Cambodia (Xiamen) Commercial Center, a representative of the Cambodian Business Center in Xiamen city in China, is cooperating with Southeast Yandu (Xiamen) Industrial Development Co., Ltd. to build a large-scale edible-nest swiftlet processing plant in Cambodia for export to China.

The two firms signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the agreement to export bird nests to China on 08 August 2022.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, HE Minister Veng Sakhon, stated that Cambodia has been producing edible-nest swiftlet for a while, but for domestic supply and small-scale export.

He added that MOU will help Cambodia enter the Chinese market, which is the largest country consuming bird nests. This will also ensure the production line in Cambodia meets standards, quality, and safety requirements set by the General Department of Customs of China.

According to the report of the General Department of Agriculture in 2022, there were a total of 872 bird nest farms in the country, which can produce between 1 to 1.5 tons per month.

In the Cambodian market, newly-harvested nest prices range from US$700 to US$900 per kilogram, and edible nest swiftlet range from US$1,500 to US$2,000 per kilogram.
