Cambodia Imports More Than Us$400 Million of Steel From Vietnam

Cambodia has imported more than US$400 million worth of steel from Vietnam in the first seven months of 2018, according to figures released by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Between January and July 2018, Vietnam’s steel exports to Cambodia total about 717 tons of steel worth US$462.73 million, which accounted for 37% of the total volume of steel Vietnam exported.

The total volume of steel imported increased by 49% compared to last year while the value grew by 77.9%. Besides Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia are among Vietnam’s top steel buyers. With the construction sector booming across the country, steel supplies will need to remain robust. While there are many steel suppliers in Cambodia, imported steel from Vietnam looks to have greater potential due to its cost as well as the transport cost compared to the steel imported from other countries like Thailand.
