Japan to Help Build bridge, Irrigation System Two Major Cambodia’s Provinces

Japan has provided a grant of US$186,856 for the construction of bridges and the rehabilitation of irrigation systems in the Kampong Speu and Kampong Cham provinces. 

The grant agreement signing ceremony was held on 5 December with the presence of the Minister/Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Cambodia Taninai Ichitomo and the Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Kampong Speu Province and the Director of the Department of Water Resources and Meteorology of Kampong Cham Province. 

Mr Taninai Ichitumo stated that the project to build a new concrete bridge to replace the wooden one in Omlaing commune, Thpong district, Kampong Speu province will cost US$ 99,212. 

The project will benefit 3,300 local people by facilitating the transportation of agricultural products as well as the daily commute of students and people to schools, markets, and health centres. 

Meanwhile, another US$87,644 will be used to build three dams and irrigation systems in Prey Chhor district, Kampong Cham province. 

The project will benefit more than 4,500 people, which will contribute to increasing farmers’ incomes by ensuring a stable water supply for agriculture. 

The grant is under the scheme called Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (KUSANONE Grant). 

Under the same scheme, the Government of Japan has agreed to provide a grant with a total budget of US$171,641 for the construction of kindergartens in Battambang and Koh Kong provinces. (Read more)

Since 1991, the Government of Japan has provided more than US$65 million to local authorities and NGOs to implement 667 projects throughout Cambodia.
