Royal Group and Keppel Energy sign deal to export 1k Mw renewable energy to Singapore via submarine power line

Cambodia’s Royal Group Power Company Ltd (RGP) and Singapore’s Keppel Energy Pte Ltd (KE) have signed a power purchase agreement for the export of renewable energy generated through a submarine power line from Cambodia to Singapore. The deal allows Cambodia to export 1000 Mw of renewable energy to Singapore via submarine high-voltage transmission, and the two companies will jointly study the feasibility of the project starting in March 2023.

The agreement was signed on March 15 in Singapore, with Kith Meng, Chairman of the Royal Group, and Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure, signing the deal under the witness of several dignitaries from Cambodia and Singapore, including HE Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy, and HE Tan See Leng, Second Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore.

“The deal contributes to cross-border energy trade and power integration among ASEAN Member States including Cambodia and Singapore, which support energy trade and integration in the energy sector in line with the ASEAN Community Connectivity Master Plan 2025.” Said HE Suy Sem.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has agreed to allow the two companies to conduct a full feasibility study and collect marine data on actual locations in the geographical location of the territorial waters and exclusive economic zone of Cambodia under the submarine power cable, starting in March until the end of 2023.

Royal Group Koh Rong Development Company has a joint venture with Electricité du Cambodge to build a 60km submarine power cable connecting from the mainland to Koh Rong.  (Read more )

In addition, the 2,715-kilometer submarine cable project from Hong Kong to Sihanoukville is scheduled to be completed in 2024, according to HE Chea Vandeth, Minister of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, on 17 February, 2023. (Read more)
