China Explores Collaboration to Establish Science and Technology University in Cambodia

A Chinese delegation expressed its keen interest in establishing a dedicated technical university focused on science in Cambodia, during a productive working meeting held on 22nd May 2023. The delegation met with the Ministry of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection to discuss the potential collaboration aimed at further advancing technical skills among Cambodian students.

Mr. Gao Jian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodia-China Association, conveyed China’s intention to establish a technical university in Cambodia, a project also supported by the Cambodian-Chinese government. This proposed institution would facilitate a deeper understanding of education and science between the two nations, fostering enhanced research techniques and knowledge exchange.

In response, Lok Chumteav Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, wholeheartedly expressed her support for the establishment of a technical university. She encouraged the Chinese delegation to present a formal proposal to Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education and Youth and Sports, to delve into the project in greater detail.

The meeting served as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Cambodian-Chinese partnership in promoting joint cooperation, aligning with the principles of President Xi Jinping’s visionary Belt and Road Initiative.

As discussions progress and collaborative efforts gain momentum, the potential establishment of a science and technology university in Cambodia promises to create exciting opportunities for Cambodian students to acquire cutting-edge technical skills. This initiative reflects the commitment of both nations to elevate educational standards and nurture the next generation of scientific talent.
