PM Advocates for Commercial Courts to Foster Investor and Business Confidence in Cambodia

In a move to enhance the investment and business environment in Cambodia, PM Hun Sen called for the establishment of commercial courts to facilitate the resolution of trade and business disputes.

During the inauguration ceremony of the “Court of Justice” on 26 June, PM Hun Sen urged the Ministry of Justice to develop a robust legal framework for the formation of commercial courts that would be characterized by transparency, credibility, and exceptional quality. The implementation of such courts is expected to bolster the confidence of investors and businessmen operating in Cambodia.

PM Hun Sen highlighted the significance of establishing commercial courts, emphasizing their role in adjudicating commercial cases. He stated, “I propose earnest efforts to expedite the establishment of commercial courts in the upcoming legislative session.”

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the initial launch of the commercial court will take place in Phnom Penh, with subsequent plans to expand to Preah Sihanouk province, an area known for its bustling trade activities.

The introduction of commercial courts is poised to bring about a transformative change in Cambodia’s legal landscape, fostering a more secure and predictable business environment. By providing a specialized venue for handling commercial disputes, these courts will offer greater clarity, efficiency, and effectiveness in resolving trade-related issues. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to promoting investor confidence and attracting foreign investment.
