Elevating Travel Horizons: Siem Reap International Airport Set to Soar on 16 October

A milestone in Cambodia’s aviation landscape is set to unfold as the new Siem Reap International Airport opens for flights on 16 October 2023. The Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation confirmed the official opening date, marking a momentous occasion for the nation’s travel industry.

In the lead-up to the grand inauguration, the airport will conduct essential test flights, with a series of non-commercial and non-profit operations scheduled between 5-15 October 2023.

Come 16 October, all passenger and air cargo business flights currently operating at the old Siem Reap International Airport (REP) will transition to the state-of-the-art facility, signalling a seamless transfer of operations.

With the International Air Transport Association (IATA Code) officially designating the airport with the three-letter code “SAI” and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO Code) acknowledging it with the four-letter code “VDSA,” Siem Reap International Airport joins the global aviation community with pride.

To ensure a smooth and coordinated transition, the Secretariat of Civil Aviation invites all national and international air transport operators, as well as key stakeholders, to initiate dialogue with the General Department of Air Transport Policy and Regulation.

Originally projected to require an investment capital of US$880 million in 2019, the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport project has experienced a remarkable surge in demand, necessitating an increased investment of $1.1 billion by 2022. This augmentation underscores the airport’s vital role in accommodating Cambodia’s growing travel needs and positioning it as a prominent aviation hub in the region. (Read more)
