Cambodia Attracts Tech Giants: Korean & Chinese Firms Explore Setting Up Advanced Factories

Cambodia’s fervent drive to foster technological progress and human resource development in the realm of cutting-edge industries is attracting the attention of major international players from China and South Korea. Diving into a realm of potential, these global giants are earnestly evaluating the feasibility of establishing advanced technology factories within Cambodia, including the pivotal domain of semiconductor chip manufacturing.

As the nation’s government places increasing emphasis on cultivating a skilled workforce to power the burgeoning technology sector, Cambodia stands poised on the cusp of a revolutionary transformation in its industrial landscape.

Speaking on this momentous development, HE Heng Sokkung, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, revealed, “The upcoming post-election period is projected to bring a fresh wave of investors to Cambodia, with a notable focus on non-garment manufacturing, particularly in the realm of modern technology, including semiconductor production.”

While Cambodia has already made strides with factories like Minibea venturing into chip production and manufacturing crucial technological components, the future holds even more promise. Distinguished companies hailing from China and South Korea are actively exploring the viability of establishing sophisticated chip production facilities within Cambodia’s borders.

The technological advancement journey aligns harmoniously with Cambodia’s overarching vision of becoming a high-middle-income country by 2030 and eventually evolving into a high-income nation by 2050, according to Minister HE Heng Sokkung.
