Thailand Exploring Investment Prospects & Collaborative Ventures Across Three Cambodian Locations

A high-level delegation from the Thai Chamber of Commerce has embarked on a comprehensive exploration of three strategic special economic zones within Cambodia. This concerted effort seeks to unravel the rich tapestry of trade, investment, and partnership opportunities, poised to contribute an estimated US$2 billion to the economic landscape. The announcement follows a significant meeting between Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce, HE Pan Sorasak, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce delegation, led by Mr Voratat Tantimongkolsuk, on 15 August 2023.

In a pivotal exchange of insights, Mr. Tantimongkolsuk shared the delegation’s unwavering commitment to understanding Cambodia’s potential as a pivotal trade partner and investment destination.

“A testament to the enduring bilateral relationship, the Thai Chamber of Commerce had previously orchestrated a delegation’s visit to Cambodia in 2022, while the Cambodian Minister of Commerce led a reciprocal delegation to Bangkok in early 2023,” he said.

“The imminent delegation’s itinerary is meticulously designed to explore trade dynamics and investment possibilities across diverse sectors. A visit to the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone and the promising provinces of Koh Kong and Sihanoukville is poised to catalyze new partnerships and investments,” added Mr. Tantimongkolsuk.

He highlighted that the pursuit of shared prosperity is further fortified by the symbiotic collaboration between the Thai Investment Council and the Council for the Development of Cambodia. This cooperative venture underscores the commitment to fostering an environment that encourages and facilitates cross-border investments.

The profound economic symbiosis between Cambodia and Thailand is vividly illuminated by the staggering bilateral trade volume figures. In 2022, the two nations generated a trade volume surpassing US$4.6 billion, a testament to the robust economic synergy that exists. Cambodia’s exports to Thailand exceeded US$409 million, while Thailand reciprocated with exports valued at US$3.832 million. The momentum of this thriving partnership continued into the first half of 2023, with the bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and Thailand reaching an impressive US$1.9 billion.
