Employment Boom: Factories in Kampong Speu in urgent need of 4,000 Workers

Kampong Speu province, a burgeoning industrial hub, is currently experiencing an urgent demand for an additional 4,000 skilled workers. This pressing need arises amid the backdrop of 385 active factories within the province, each contributing significantly to Cambodia’s industrial prowess.

Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, HE Heng Sour, highlighted this demand during a recent meeting with workers from 14 factories, collectively employing over 18,000 individuals in Samrong Tong district in Kampong Speu province. Minister Heng Sour underscored that, during the first eight months of 2023, these factories required approximately 4,000 more workers to meet their operational needs. Furthermore, the Cambodian economy, as a whole, has generated around 17,000 additional job opportunities during this period.

Kampong Speu province currently boasts a workforce of 150,000 individuals, contributing significantly to its annual salary disbursements of approximately US$470 million. Impressively, the province is home to 191 garment factories, employing about 140,000 workers and generating an annual revenue of roughly US$430 million.

Rising as the second most developed province after the capital, Phnom Penh, Kampong Speu continues to attract foreign investments. Recently, Chinese investors from Henan province committed to supporting over 50 new factories in the area. These investments are concentrated in the agricultural sector, with a primary focus on livestock farming, including cattle and pig rearing, as well as beef and pork processing. (Read more)
