Chinese Company to Recruit 6,000 in Kompong Speu

General Enterprise Garment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, a prominent Chinese-invested garment and manufacturing company, has unveiled plans to recruit a substantial workforce exceeding 6,000 individuals. This recruitment drive is fuelled by the company’s commitment to bolster its second factory’s operations in Kompong Speu, following the resounding success of its inaugural facility in Kandal.

This ambitious expansion initiative has received resounding support from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT). The ministry has pledged unwavering assistance to facilitate the recruitment process, supplementing the company’s internal hiring efforts. This collaborative effort was solidified during an official meeting held on the morning of 5 October 2023, attended by HE Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, and Mr Rey Chan, CEO of General Enterprise Garment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.

HE Heng Sour extended his heartfelt congratulations to the company for its strategic decision to augment its investment with the establishment of a second garment factory. This expansion comes hand in hand with the integration of cutting-edge technology to amplify the production chain. Drawing upon the company’s extensive experience and the implementation of modern technology, HE Heng Sour expressed his confidence in the investment’s ability to meet international labour and environmental standards, cementing its status as a project that garners full support from all stakeholders.

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) had previously greenlit projects by General Enterprises Garment (Cambodia) Co Ltd. These projects encompassed a substantial US$7.3 million investment situated in Kandal Stung district in Kandal province, poised to generate approximately 937 employment opportunities for local residents. As the second garment factory in Kompong Speu prepares for launch in the near future, this development holds immense promise for the region’s economic and employment landscape.

Speaking at a ceremony, the Minister of MLVT emphasised that Kampong Speu province, emerging as a thriving industrial hub, currently faces a pressing demand for an additional 4,000 skilled workers. This surge in employment opportunities aligns with Cambodia’s broader economic trajectory, which has already generated around 17,000 new job prospects during this period. (Read more)
