KOICA Gifts 15 Ambulances to Cambodia to Address Nationwide Healthcare Needs

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has generously bestowed Cambodia with 15 ambulances, fortifying the country’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies across its diverse landscape.

The solemn handover ceremony, held on 13 October 2023, was hosted by HE Professor Chheang Ra, Cambodia’s Minister of Health, and attended by His Excellency PARK Jung-Wook, the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cambodia.

Highlighting the immense value of this gesture, the ambassador emphasised that these ambulances will play a pivotal role in enhancing healthcare services’ efficiency and facilitating prompt responses to emergencies throughout the nation.

KOICA has been actively engaged in bolstering healthcare infrastructure and empowering medical professionals across Cambodia. The agency’s contributions have been instrumental in assisting hospitals throughout the country, including the Ophthalmology Hospital, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital, Ang Duong Hospital, and Maternal and Child Health Centres in Ratanakkiri and Mondulkiri provinces. These initiatives have not only strengthened medical infrastructure but have also augmented the capabilities of healthcare personnel.

This commendable gift is made possible through the “ODA KOREA: Building TRUST (Transparency, Resilience, Unity, and Safety Together)” project, supported by the Korean Government via KOICA Cambodia. This initiative underscores the Korean Government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare facilities and services in Cambodia, with a remarkable contribution of US$78 million to the health sector last year.

It’s worth noting that KOICA’s philanthropy extends beyond ambulances. Recently, the agency has been instrumental in the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital building at Ang Duong Hospital, equipped with cutting-edge medical technology to bolster the nation’s healthcare capabilities.
