SHV Autonomous Port Generates Over US$35m in Four Months, Up 24%

In the first four months of 2024, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port earned over US$35 million from its import and export operations, handling more than 3 million tons of goods. This marks a significant 24.40% revenue increase compared to the same period in 2023. This data was reported by Mr. Thai Rithy, Deputy Director General of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port Corporation, on 5 June 2024.

Mr. Rithy detailed that from January to April 2024, the port facilitated the import of 2,334,627 tons of goods and the export of 756,566 tons, culminating in a total volume exceeding 3 million tons—an increase of 26.96% over last year. This impressive growth underscores the port’s crucial role in Cambodia’s economic expansion, serving as a key conduit for international trade.

Additionally, Mr. Rithy highlighted the ongoing development of a new deep-water container port. Currently, in the soil testing phase, this project features a planned length of 350 metres and a depth of 14.5 metres. Initiated on 22 December 2023, the project is approximately 2% complete and is slated for completion by late 2026 or early 2027. This new facility is expected to further enhance the port’s capacity and efficiency, solidifying its status as a pivotal hub for regional commerce.
