Korea Pledges US$10 Million Cooperation Fund to Boost Mekong Development by 2027

The Republic of Korea has pledged to increase its financial contribution to the Mekong-Republic of Korea Cooperation Fund to US$10 million by 2027, aiming to bolster sustainable development and environmental protection in the Mekong subregion. This commitment was announced in a press release on 28 July 2024.

During the 12th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Mekong and the Republic of Korea, held on 26 July 2024 in Vientiane, Laos, both parties focused on strengthening business partnerships and enhancing cooperation in economic, trade, and investment sectors.

Korea’s substantial financial commitment underscores a shared vision for future development, with an emphasis on human resource development, climate change integration, natural resource management, agricultural cooperation, rural development, non-traditional security issues, and people-to-people exchanges to support sustainable development in the subregion.

Established in 2011, the Mekong-Republic of Korea cooperation has significantly contributed to enhancing sub-regional connectivity and competitiveness, reducing development gaps, and building sustainable communities within the Mekong subregion.
