Korean EV Firm Camko Motor to Establish Electric Car Assembly Plant in Cambodia for Global Export

Camko Motor and Camko Infracore are preparing to launch electric vehicle assembly operations in Cambodia, a strategic move that taps into the rapidly growing global demand for electric cars. This ambitious plan was revealed during a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and HE Kim Jin-pyo, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, along with Mr. Park Joo-bong, CEO of Camko Motor, in Seoul on 11 September 2024.

During the meeting, Mr. Park Joo-bong shared that Camko Motor has begun operations in Cambodia and aims to assemble electric cars for domestic consumption and export to international markets. This project will require significant human resources, technical training, and skill development.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised the initiative, highlighting that while electric vehicle usage in Cambodia remains limited, their adoption could significantly reduce fuel costs and contribute to the country’s modernization.

In May 2024, Camko Motor sought approval from the Cambodian Prime Minister to conduct feasibility studies and promote the establishment of an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Cambodia. This project presents a valuable opportunity for Cambodia’s market to benefit from modern electric vehicles while promoting local production for export.

Camko Infracore’s investment plan aligns with Cambodia’s vision of sustainable economic development and green technology adoption, marking a significant milestone for the local automotive sector.
