As of August 2024, Cambodia has nearly 4,000 registered EVs and 21 power stations

As of August 2024, Cambodia had 3,676 registered electric vehicles and 21 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide. This information was provided by HE Peng Po Nea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, during the opening ceremony of the National Policy Dissemination Workshop on Electric Vehicle Development 2024-2030 on September 18, 2024.

During the event, HE Peng Po Nea mentioned that the use of vehicles in Cambodia has significantly increased, particularly motorcycles and cars. Out of a total of over 7 million vehicles, approximately 85% are motorcycles, 10% are passenger cars, and 5% are heavy-duty vehicles, trucks, and machinery.

HE emphasized that the growth in electric vehicle usage in Cambodia has aligned with the global trend of remarkable acceleration. Despite the rapid growth, he highlighted the need for support from all stakeholders and the introduction of more specific policies to develop the electric vehicle sector further.

The Ministry of Public Works views the promotion of electric vehicles as a significant contribution to reducing the impact of carbon dioxide emissions from fuel vehicles. The Ministry is committed to implementing necessary measures set by the government to promote the use of electric vehicles to 40% and electric motorcycles to 70% by 2050 as part of the long-term development strategy for carbon neutrality.
