Cambodia Approves USD 5.79 Billion Investment in 23 Renewable Energy Projects

In a landmark move to revolutionise its energy landscape, the Cambodian government, under the leadership of PM Hun Manet, has approved 23 power projects with a total investment of nearly USD 5.79 billion.

The projects, which span the period from 2024 to 2029, aim to significantly boost the nation’s renewable energy capacity, marking a bold shift towards clean and sustainable power solutions, as revealed by the Council of Ministers during a plenary session on 27 September 2024.

These 23 projects will include 12 solar energy ventures, 6 wind energy developments, a biomass-solar hybrid project, an LNG power plant, a hydropower project, and two energy storage stations.

The total output from these 21 power stations is projected to reach 3,950 MW, while the two storage stations will add a capacity of 2,000 MW. Together, these projects represent a sweeping push to transform Cambodia’s energy sector by leveraging diverse renewable sources and cutting-edge technology.

Located across key provinces such as Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, and Prey Veng, these energy developments are expected to power the nation’s growing demand for sustainable energy while enhancing its competitiveness as an investment destination for green technologies.
