Canada plans to open an embassy in Phnom Penh soon

Canada plans to open its embassy in Phnom Penh soon to strengthen the long-term relationship between Cambodia and Canada, especially in trade cooperation. This decision came after a working meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and His Excellency Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, on October 10, 2024, in Rieng Chan, Laos.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Trudeau informed PM Hun Manet that Canada plans to open an embassy in Phnom Penh soon to strengthen diplomatic relations. He also mentioned that Canada will send a trade delegation to visit Cambodia to discuss and promote bilateral trade.

In response, PM Hun Manet expressed his happiness about the progress of the long-term relations between Cambodia and Canada. He also informed Prime Minister Trudeau that Canada is Cambodia’s seventh bilateral trade partner and has contributed to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, including job creation and professional development for Cambodian youth.

PM Hun Manet also highlighted recent cooperation between the two countries, such as organising a trade fair in Montreal and the planned opening of the Cambodian Embassy in Canada.
