Thailand Proposes Tourism Program with Cambodia: “6 Countries, 1 Goal”

Thailand has proposed to Cambodia the establishment of a tourism initiative called “6 Countries, 1 Goal” to enhance tourism collaboration within the ASEAN region.

This proposal was discussed during a meeting on October 21, 2024, between Mr Dusit Menapan, an adviser to the Thai Foreign Minister, and HE Huot Hak, Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism. The aim of the initiative is to create enjoyable travel experiences across six ASEAN countries.

The six countries included in this initiative are Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. However, the Thai side expressed a desire to initially test this program with Cambodia before expanding it to the other five countries.

Additionally, the Thai representatives outlined various strategies to boost tourism cooperation, such as the introduction of a mutual visa waiver and the option for travellers to obtain a visa on arrival in both countries. These measures are intended to streamline immigration processes and develop a cohesive tourism identity, as reported by Pattayamail on October 22, 2024.

In response, HE Huot Hak has not yet confirmed support for the initiative. He requested that the Thai side send comprehensive documents and related information for Cambodia to review and consider before making a decision.
