Cambodia’s Mining Sector Attracts USD 2.764 Billion Investment Across 555 Licensed Operations

Cambodia’s mining sector continues to expand, with 555 registered mining licenses now active under the Ministry of Mines and Energy, driving a total investment of USD 2.764 billion and creating approximately 11,306 jobs. The ministry highlighted this significant growth during its annual meeting on 21 November 2024, underscoring the sector’s vital role in national economic development.

In 2024 alone, the sector generated USD 65 million in non-tax revenues, with 88% of the total—approximately USD 57 million—coming from royalties. Additional contributions, including public service revenues, land fees, and fines, accounted for USD 7 million or 12% of the total. The ministry anticipates revenue collections to rise to USD 89 million in 2025, with royalties expected to contribute 90% of this amount.

The ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to managing the country’s mineral resources sustainably while fostering an attractive environment for investors. These developments highlight the mining sector’s growing importance in boosting Cambodia’s economic resilience, creating employment opportunities, and positioning the nation as an emerging player in the regional mining industry.
