Japan Boosts Phnom Penh’s Emergency Services with Over USD 200,000 in Grants

The Japanese government has announced a significant contribution of over USD 200,000 to support two critical projects aimed at enhancing emergency response capabilities in the Phnom Penh capital. The funding comes through a grant agreement for a small-scale human security project known as Kusanone.

The financial assistance will be allocated to two key initiatives. The first, titled “Project to Procure Japanese Smoke-Spraying Vehicles in Phnom Penh,” has a budget of USD 83,672. This project aims to equip local firefighting teams with specialised vehicles designed to spray smoke from buildings during fire incidents, thereby aiding in effective rescue operations.

The second initiative, “Project to Procure Used Fire Trucks and Ambulances in Phnom Penh,” is set to receive USD 154,376. This project will bolster the city’s emergency services by providing one fire truck and another equipped with an impressive 40-meter ladder, allowing for greater reach in firefighting efforts.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration expressed strong support for these initiatives, emphasizing that technical assistance and vehicles are crucial for improving the effectiveness of firefighting interventions in the city. The grant highlights a commitment to enhancing public safety and ensuring that emergency services are well-equipped to handle incidents efficiently.
