Japan Boosts Cambodia Education & Healthcare with New Grant Aid

In a significant commitment to support Cambodia’s development, the Japanese government has announced a grant aid of over USD 720,000 to enhance early childhood education and improve medical services in the country. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony with a Japanese NGO in Cambodia, attended by key officials, including HE Ueno Atsushi, Japan’s Ambassador to Cambodia.

The funding will be allocated to two vital projects aimed at strengthening the community’s educational and health infrastructures:

1. Healthcare Improvement: A budget of USD 245,872 is designated for the Fund for International Development and Relief (FIDR). This initiative focuses on enhancing the community-based surgical care system at hospitals and health centres, particularly by building the capacity and leadership skills of staff at Kratie Provincial Referral Hospital. Additionally, training will be provided to district referral hospital staff and health centre personnel to ensure they can accurately identify medical symptoms and refer patients to appropriate facilities.

2. Early Childhood Education: The Peace Volunteers Association (SVA) will receive USD 474,432 to enhance access and quality of education services at state kindergartens in Preah Vihear province. The SVA aims to improve both the physical and human environments of kindergartens, striving to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural children.

This grant is part of the Japanese NGO project “InRen,” which has been operational since 2002. To date, Japan has contributed more than USD 60 million towards 160 projects in Cambodia, focusing on areas such as primary education, health, agriculture, and my clearance. These initiatives play a crucial role in improving the quality of life for Cambodians across the nation.
