Hong Leong Plans Motorcycle Assembly Plant Investment in Cambodia

 

In a significant move for the Cambodian automotive industry, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has announced its intention to invest in establishing a Yamaha motorcycle assembly plant in Cambodia. The company’s representatives recently met with officials from the Royal Government of Cambodia to discuss the details of this promising project.

The discussion took place on June 25, 2025, during a meeting between His Excellency Chea Wutthy, Secretary General of the Cambodia Investment Committee of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr. Hoo Wan Tim, CEO of Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. In the meeting, the company’s representative expressed confidence in the Cambodian government’s support, referencing their previous investment in Hong Leong Bank (Cambodia) Plc, which has been operational since 2013.

H.E. Chea Vutthy welcomed the company’s interest in the motorcycle assembly plant and provided insights into the status of existing motorcycle assembly projects in Cambodia. He also outlined the attractive incentive regimes available for motorcycle assembly and investment projects in the country. Furthermore, he highlighted additional sectors with investment potential, including agro-industry, electronics manufacturing, and furniture production, which could offer further opportunities for Hong Leong.

Founded in 1979, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is a well-established motorcycle manufacturer in Malaysia and a subsidiary of Hong Leong Group, a diversified conglomerate engaged in various sectors such as finance, manufacturing, real estate, and hospitality.

This latest announcement follows Hong Leong Manufacturing Group’s previous indications of plans to expand investments across multiple promising sectors in Cambodia, signaling a positive outlook for the country’s economic development and the growth of its manufacturing capabilities. (Read more)
