Cambodia’s Special Economic Zones Drive Export Growth and Employment

Cambodia’s special economic zones (SEZs) are proving to be pivotal in boosting the nation’s export capacity, contributing to more than 23% of total exports. As of 2024, the country boasts 44 SEZs, which are instrumental in enhancing domestic product exports, with projections estimating their contribution to total exports could reach between 23%-25% from 2022 to 2024.

Dr. Sar Shinira, Deputy Secretary-General of the Investment Committee of Cambodia, highlighted these achievements during a recent seminar focused on promoting green investment within the SEZs. He emphasized the zones’ critical role in economic growth.

Mr. Suon Sophal, another Deputy Secretary-General at the Investment Committee, noted that since 2011, goods produced in these special economic zones have generated approximately USD 32.6 billion in export revenue for Cambodia.

As of 2024, the SEZs are not only boosting exports but also creating job opportunities, providing around 187,000 positions, and fostering industrial diversification essential for the nation’s socio-economic development. (Read more)

According to data from the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, the total export-import trade volume reached over USD 55 billion in 2024, and during the first five months of 2025 alone, this figure surpassed USD 25 billion. (Read more and more)
