China Railway Company, Royal Railway Team Up to Develop Cambodia’s Railway

China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and local company Royal Railway have agreed to team up to develop and upgrade the railway network in Cambodia for it to become more a more effective transportation system.

The partnership between the two companies was unveiled in a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and Chen Fenjian, chairman of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited on Sunday in Beijing.

According to a post on Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s Facebook page, the representatives of the company said his company and the Royal Railway will work together to develop and modernise the railway in Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Sen asked the Ministry of Public Works and Transports to facilitate the partnership’s success in developing the country’s railway.

The ministry’s spokesperson H.E Vasim Sorya expected that Cambodia’s railway will be developed through the partnership due to the China firm having experienced in building railways.

“Because China’s companies have years of experience and are well recognised in building railways, it is a good opportunity for Cambodia and the partnership with the Royal Railway will develop further the railway,” Mr Sorya told Construction & Property Magazine on Monday.

Currently, Cambodia has two railroads –Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh-Poipet, with the Cambodia side officially connected with railroad in Thailand last week.
