Study on Improving Railway Network Starts

China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) Limited starts its mission in conducting study on improving the railway network in Cambodia and the transportation infrastructure in Phnom Penh City to ease traffic congestion.

In a meeting with H.E Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transports on 9 May in Phnom Penh, CRCC’s vice chairman Wang Wenzhong said that the visit of CRCC’s delegation in Cambodia this times is to conduct study in improving for better the existing railway from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh to Poipet.

Mr Wang Wenzhong said the Chinese experts also conduct feasibility studies on monorail and subway in Phnom Penh Capital for reducing the traffic congestion, according to the ministry’s Facebook page.

The ministry’s spokesman H.E Vasim Sorya said that the result of the study the company will report to the Cambodian government for selecting the best choice of transportation infrastructure with effectively in easing the traffic congestion.

“It is just a study, when the result of the study reveals, we will know the best selection and the selection will depend on the government,” H.E Sorya.

China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and local company Royal Railway have agreed to team up to develop railway in Cambodia aiming to upgrade the railway more effectively in transportation.

The partnership between the two companies has been unveiled on 28 April in a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and Chen Fenjian, chairman of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited on Sunday in Beijing.

H.E Sorya declined to give more detail over the partnership between CRCC and the Royal Railway.

In the meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol asked the CRCC to conduct a feasibility study on 100 km-railway between Sereysophoan to Siem Reap province which the railroad will be serve for tourists to visit Angkor Wat temples, from Bangkok in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
