Australia Boosts Support for Cambodia’s Mine Action Efforts with Additional AUD 2 Million

In a significant commitment to bolster safety and rehabilitation in Cambodia, the Australian Government has announced an additional AUD 2 million (over USD 1.2 million) for the ongoing Cambodia Mine Action Project Phase 4 (CFR4). This funding initiative was formalized through an agreement signed on 30 April 2025 by HE Derek Yip, the Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, and Ms. Alissar Chaker, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representative in Cambodia.

This latest contribution is part of Australia’s extensive support for mine action efforts in Cambodia, which has surpassed AUD 100 million since 1994. Much of this funding has been directed to prominent mine action operators such as CMAC, HALO Trust, and MAG, underscoring Australia’s dedication to eradicating the deadly legacy of landmines in the region.

Over the course of the mine action project, spanning from 2006 to 2025, Australia’s investment has totaled an impressive USD 36,180,605, effectively making a real difference on the ground. Since the inception of the Mine Action for Results project coordinated by UNDP in 2006, a remarkable 384 square kilometers of land have been cleared of mines, significantly improving the lives of more than 1.2 million Cambodian beneficiaries.

As Cambodia continues to recover and rebuild, initiatives like these are vital for ensuring safe and productive environments for communities affected by the devastating impacts of landmines. With ongoing support from Australia and international partners, Cambodia is on a path towards a mine-free future.
