Australia-Cambodia jointly launch food quality analysis laboratory in Cambodia

Australia and the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge have officially launched a food quality testing service in Cambodia, as announced in a press release from the Australian Embassy on October 16, 2024.

This initiative aims to provide accredited testing services, following ISO standards, for the analysis of pesticides and heavy metals in food products. It is part of the Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development (CAPRED) program, which seeks to enhance the quality of food products, improve the competitiveness of the domestic market, create jobs, promote food safety, protect consumers, and increase market access for Cambodian agricultural products.

This project addresses the challenges faced by approximately 70 percent of Cambodian businesses when applying for agricultural certification, highlighting the necessity for internationally recognized laboratory testing services within the country.

According to Professor André Spiegel, Director of the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge, “This new laboratory service will enable the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge to provide reliable testing services for Cambodia’s agro-food sector. This laboratory service will promote food safety and contribute to the country’s sustainable development by increasing trade opportunities.”
