Bentley Systems Celebrated World Engineering Day by Highlighting Key Sustainable Infrastructure Projects

In 2019, the UN Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) established World Engineering Day to acknowledge the critical role of engineering and engineers worldwide in fostering a better and more sustainable world. On the fourth anniversary of this significant day, Bentley Systems took the opportunity to highlight its contributions to sustainable engineering processes.

In a post shared on its official Facebook page on March 4, 2024, Bentley Systems reflected on its commitment to sustainable engineering and the impact of its innovative solutions. The company emphasized the pivotal role of engineers and infrastructure professionals in utilizing Bentley Systems’ tools to design, build, and manage resilient infrastructure through intelligent digital twin solutions. Highlighted projects featured in the post include:

Renewable Energy in Italy: Engineers are spearheading the construction of solar farms across Italy, with a capacity to generate 2 gigawatts of renewable energy. Digital twin technology has played a crucial role in project design, reducing the need for on-site travel and contributing to a 10% increase in Italy’s solar energy generation.

Water Scarcity and Sustainable Agriculture in California: The EchoWater megaproject in California’s Sacramento Valley aims to address water scarcity issues by upgrading a wastewater treatment facility. Digital twins have enabled engineers to meticulously plan and manage 22 individual construction and design projects, ensuring the project’s success.

London’s South Dock Bridge: Designed to enhance urban connectivity and promote sustainable transport, the South Dock Bridge project in London leveraged digital planning and design to minimize its carbon footprint. Proactive maintenance enabled by digital twins further mitigated the environmental impact.

Smart City Planning in Beijing: Engineers utilized infrastructure digital twins to address transportation challenges in Beijing’s northeast Chaoyang District. By improving travel options and predicting demand and traffic flow in the rapidly developing West Dongba area, smart city planning initiatives were effectively implemented.

The showcased projects underscore the versatility and effectiveness of Bentley Systems’ Digital Twin technology across various sectors, including construction management and renewable energy. This cutting-edge technology not only enhances physical infrastructure projects but also holds potential for broader applications, such as large-scale power station projects.Through its commitment to sustainable engineering and innovative digital solutions, Bentley Systems continues to play a crucial role in advancing sustainable development goals worldwide.
