Cambodia Achieves Milestone in Preschool Education Expansion

In a significant stride towards enhancing early childhood education, Cambodia has announced the establishment of over 9,000 preschools across the nation as of 2025. This ambitious initiative includes approximately 4,725 state-run preschools, aimed at delivering crucial educational services to the country’s youngest learners.

The announcement was made by Ms. Kim Sedhani, the Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, during the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Early Childhood Development held in Manila, Philippines, on July 2.

“By the start of the 2024-2025 school year, Cambodia will be operating a total of 9,036 preschools,” Ms. Sedhani revealed. This figure comprises 4,725 public institutions, 963 private preschools, and 3,348 community-based preschools. Additionally, the country has established 13 community-based daycare centers strategically located near garment factories, providing essential support for working families.

The Ministry of Education has also pledged to collaborate with regional partners to advance the protection and development of young children, ensuring that early childhood education is both equitable and inclusive throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Reflecting Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to education, previous reports from the Ministry indicated that as of 2023, the country boasted 8,607 kindergartens, 8,067 primary schools, 1,340 secondary schools, and 816 high schools. The Royal Government of Cambodia is dedicated to constructing additional educational facilities to meet the needs of an increasing student population across the nation. (Read more)
