Cambodia Attracts 191 Projects Worth Over US$3.7 Billion in 9 Months

In a significant boost to Cambodia’s economic prospects, the Council for the Development of Cambodia has given the green light to 191 fresh production expansion and investment projects in the first three quarters of 2023, marking an increase from the 150 recorded during the same period the previous year.

These collective production expansion and investment endeavours have injected a substantial US$3.7 billion into the Cambodian economy, rising from the US$3.459 billion invested during the corresponding period in the preceding year.

A recent report unveiled over the weekend delves into these developments, revealing a detailed breakdown. Among these, 50 investment projects are nestled within special economic zones, boasting a cumulative investment capital of US$639 million. Additionally, 141 other investment projects are set outside the special economic zones, carrying a total investment capital of US$3.125 billion.

September alone bore witness to the Council for the Development of Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to fostering economic growth. During this month, it gave the nod to 27 fresh investment projects and production expansion endeavours, amassing a striking US$1.6 billion in investment capital. Notably, these ventures collectively have the potential to create over 32,000 employment opportunities.

China takes the lead as Cambodia’s foremost foreign investor, accounting for a substantial 76% of total investments during the first nine months of 2023. The roster of investors also encompasses local entrepreneurs, along with capital flows from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, the United States, Brunei, Sweden, Canada, Samoa, and the British Virgin Islands.
