Cambodia Extends Support to Timor-Leste’s Agricultural Sector through Land Inspection by Expert Team

In a significant demonstration of solidarity and cooperation, the Cambodian government has pledged its support to Timor-Leste’s agricultural sector by dispatching a team of agricultural experts to assess the land conditions. The decision was announced during a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and HE Kairala Sananagos Mao, former President of Timor-Leste and the current Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, on 6th May 2023.

Recognizing the importance of self-sufficiency in agricultural production, HE Kay Rala Sananagos Mao expressed his desire for Cambodia’s assistance in reducing Timor-Leste’s dependence on food imports from other nations. Furthermore, he conveyed his gratitude to the Cambodian government for its valuable support in Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN and for its assistance in containing the spread of Covid-19.

In response to these requests, Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fostering agricultural development in Timor-Leste. He proposed the deployment of a team of agricultural experts to assess the land and identify opportunities for future agricultural production in Timor-Leste, underscoring the importance of leveraging Cambodia’s expertise to bolster the agricultural sector of its neighboring nation.

The land inspection by the expert team signifies a crucial step towards long-term collaboration and cooperation between the two nations, fostering a prosperous and sustainable agricultural future.
