Cambodia Sees 18% Surge in Construction Material Imports, Reaching US$750m in First Half of 2024

Cambodia imported construction materials worth a total of US$753 million in the first six months of 2024, marking an 18 percent increase from the previous year, according to a report by the Ministry of Commerce.

Cement imports were valued at nearly US$10 million, showing a 9% decrease, while iron and steel imports soared to US$384 million, a 50% increase. The rise in construction material imports signifies a positive trend in the recovery of Cambodia’s construction sector.

A recent report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance highlighted that in the first five months of this year, a total of 1,330 construction projects received permits, covering an area of 4.27 million square metres and representing US$1,811 million in investment capital. (Read more)
