Cambodia Launches Institute of Automotive Technology and New Energy Industry

In a significant step towards bolstering innovation in the automotive sector, Cambodia officially inaugurated the Institute of Automotive Technology and New Energy Industry, led by HE Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

During the launch event, Minister Vandy highlighted that the institute aims to equip individuals with essential skills, foster industrial innovation, and promote low-carbon transportation solutions. He noted that this initiative marks a pivotal advancement in research, technical training, and innovation specifically focused on electric vehicles and cutting-edge energy technologies.

The establishment of the institute is a collaborative effort involving Chongqing University of Technology, GTV Motor, and the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia. Its primary goal is to develop a skilled workforce in the fields of electric vehicles, engineering, and new energy technologies, thereby supporting Cambodia’s transition towards sustainable production methods and enhancing the country’s value-added industrial output.

A reflection of the growing demand for electric vehicles in Cambodia, data from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport reveals that from January to September 2025, the nation registered an impressive 10,568 electric vehicles. His Excellency Phan Rim, spokesperson for the ministry, noted on October 14, 2025, that the trend of adopting electric vehicles continues to rise, signaling a shift towards greener transportation options.
