Cambodia Strengthens Aviation Ties with China: Agreement to Purchase 20 C909 Regional Jets

In a significant move to enhance air connectivity between Cambodia and China, Cambodia Airways has announced plans to purchase 20 Chinese-made C909 regional jets. The agreement, which includes 10 confirmed aircraft and 10 more on order, reflects growing collaboration in the aviation sector between the two nations.

The signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding took place on September 8, 2025, between Cambodia Airways and the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). Wang Wenbin, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, stated that this purchase marks a crucial development in bilateral aviation cooperation, offering substantial benefits for both countries.

This announcement coincides with the recent opening of the 4F-class Techo International Airport, which is equipped to handle large aircraft, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747. The airport officially launched operations on September 9, 2025, and is expected to significantly boost international air traffic.

Furthermore, the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia has reported a robust increase in tourism, as 53,291 Chinese visitors traveled to Cambodia in the first seven months of 2025—an impressive 21% rise over the previous year. In recognition of this trend, 2025 has been designated as the Cambodia-China Tourism Year, and officials anticipate a continued influx of Chinese tourists throughout the year. (Read more)

This partnership and the anticipated growth in tourism highlight the strengthening ties between Cambodia and China, paving the way for enhanced economic and cultural exchanges in the years to come.
