Cambodian community to build a killing fields memorial garden in Long Beach

Cambodian community in London Beach city has recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a Killing Fields Memorial Garden construction project, marking another achievement of the Cambodian community in the United States.

Located on the opposite the Mark Twain Neighborhood Library Anaheim Street, this memorial garden will include a stage, water fountain, a stupa, a monument-type structure, according to the Long Beach Post.

The same source also reported that this project is expected to be completed in 2021.

According to the 6th District Councilman Mr Dee Andrews, the project is co-initiated by Fields Memorial Center and Cambodian Veterans in 2005, and the architectural design was completed in 2016.

Meanwhile, the project is estimated to cost around $US 750,000. However, Mr Andrews and other community members reduce the budget to only $US 400,000, which at this stage, US$ 15,000 has been raised.

Mr Andraw also mentioned that the team is welcoming donation, and for those who donate $US 500 or more will get their names placed on a plaque.
